Winners of the

Mort's Fabulous Fiction Award

(otherwise known as "the Wolfie")

WOW! What a lot of fabulous fiction is out there!

But, sadly, not all of the links to winning fiction work any more...  sigh!!!

Some stories have just disappeared off the web. Others may just have been moved and I no longer know where they're hosted. So if there are any missing or inactive links and you know where the stories have moved to, please let me know.

I'm  trying to be as fair about this as possible. While I am the first to admit that stories *I* really like are naturally more likely to win an award, all of the * reader-nominated* stories are being judged purely on their merits as good, solid works of fiction rather than on my own personal tastes.

So keep the nominations coming and don't be put off suggesting a story just because I may have expressed the fact that I don't personally like certain *types* of story.

The idea of the Wolfies is to recognize good, talented writers whose stories deserve recognition regardless of the subject matter or pairings.

Except blatant Mary Sues, stories with underaged sex, and stories that haven't seen a spell-checker.  I don't care how good the plot, if the writer hasn't bothered to beta it, I won't even consider it. Sorry if those exceptions offend anyone, but that's just the way it is.

I hope you'll all use this page as a way to find, read and enjoy the stories of the Winners.

And remember, if you enjoy their stories - take a few minutes to let them know. A tiny email from you might be all they need to feel inspired to write ANOTHER fabulous story - that way, we're ALL winners!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away....oops, wrong fandom....I read a story that set the high-bar for me as far as fiction is concerned.

"The Taming of Tom Paris" by Britta.

Not only am I still desperately struggling to reach anywhere near the standard Britta set, but when I was a very insecure fledgling writer she was unbelievably kind and supportive of me.

So, I can't possibly fail to award her story a Wolfie with much affection and admiration for her work.  If you haven't read her stories, go and do so now! If you *have* read them, go and read them again! <g>

ST Voyager C/P

A wolfie goes to the wonderful Amazon X for her 'Compromised' series.  A truly wonderful Sk/K saga that I find myself re-reading over and over again.

X-Files  Sk/K

It's pretty obvious that if I host a writer, I seriously think they are brilliant (otherwise I wouldn't do it, would I?)

So naturally this award goes to Ellison Wonderland who has such a wicked sense of humor that I'm often uncertain whether to flinch or laugh at what he puts his characters through. I always think that cringe-factor is proof of the reality of the situations he portrays. They are funny - as long as you don't imagine it happening to yourself <g>

ST Voyager C/P & A/K

And  Layla V

Well, what can I say about her? She has a lyrical style, the mind of a poet and the morals of a....well, let's just say her sex scenes are not only pretty but HOT!

ST Voyager C/P

I can't think of enough superlatives to describe the fiction of Mik.  He first enticed me into his wonderful world with his Sk/M stories, then left-footed me by writing a series of equally fantastic M/K stories, so I'm spoiled for choice. The truth is, Mik is incapable of writing anything other than a wonderful story <g>

So a Wolfie goes to MIK for simply being one of my favorite writers ever in ANY pairing!

X-Files

A Wolfie deservedly goes to a stunning  story, with Tom looking after a severely wounded Chakotay . Here we see Chak in all his guises from child-like innocent to James Dean like Sex God.

Be careful what you wish for by JJ

The story is now hosted on this site!

Can you spell "Happy Mort???" <g>

ST Voyager C/P

I just love ALL her fiction, so I can't pick or choose an individual story. Suffice it to say she gets this award for EVERYTHING <g>

One of my favorite Sk/K writers ever - Elizabeth Marshall whose stories can be found at the wonderful Persuaders Archive

X-Files

Staying with the theme of X-files discipline stories, Lorelei has written a series of Sk/K and Sk/K/M stories that I find myself returning to again and again. There's nothing nicer when I get home late from work, too tired to write anything myself, than re-visiting Lorelei's stories and wallowing in the gentle angst. I think she deserves this Wolfie simply for the number of Kleenex I've gone through at her website! <g>

X-Files

Just about anything written by Cheryl.  She writes C/P with a deft and sensitive touch that never fails to grab the reader and draw them into her universe. I don't believe she has a site of her own yet, but I'm reasonably certain all her stories are archived at the TPDORM

ST Voyager C/P

Speaking of fantastic C/P stories, you can't go far wrong with anything by Ainzfern, so again I decided to award a Wolfie for her stories in general, rather than making the impossible choice of picking between them for a suitable recipient. She is still building her own website, but in the meantime you can read her wonderful stories at the Cha-Club archives (and, let's face it, it's always worth visiting the Cha-Club archives anyway.)

ST Voyager C/P

Great North Woods and Liamterra by Jo B

Great North Woods is a Sk/M  M/O that is more X-files than AU. The story only *really* gets weird in the sequel Liamterra.  Of course, when I say *weird* I use the word in the best possible sense! <g>  Liamterra is still a wip but there's a huge amount there already to sink your teeth into.

While you check it out, have a blast at Life From The Ashes which is probably even longer, and a truly wonderful story.  Mpreg stories are not to my own personal taste, unfortunately, but I make an exception for this tale simply because it is a stunning AU that deserves all the praise it has received.

X-Files

A Folly For Two by Xactly558  A perfect little two part gem of a story. M/Sk (and definitely in need of a sequel)

X-Files

"Misprision" by Sharon Marais  - still a wip at this time but some wonderful Alex angst that really rocks my world <g>

X-Files

The wonderful thing about these awards is that by requesting nominations of stories, I'm discovering some fabulous fiction that I otherwise might not have found.

One such story is:

Best Served Cold by Noirceur

If you liked "Metamorphosis" you are going to LOVE this story. If you found "Met" upsetting, you possibly won't <g> Personally, I was so excited to find this story that I dropped everything and read it twice in a row (and, believe me, it's a long story LOL)

It's always difficult when a writer pushes the envelope and takes a character in a direction that we might feel uncomfortable with. That's the point to remind yourself that this is FICTION, it's just FUN and there's no point saying Skinner "would never do that" because who the hell would have imagined what he did in the "episode that shall forever remain nameless" either????

Given the choice between CC's solution for Alex and the one presented in Best Served Cold, I personally prefer THIS Skinner anyway. <g>

X-Files

The next Wolfie goes to another reader nomination:

"The Changing" Series, by Czara

In the words of the nominator: "It's long, it's unbelievably imaginative, has a great plot and everything else you can dream of. An exciting threesome AND (I never thought I would ever say this) she developed Original Characters you just wish were real. I love, love, love this Universe. I'm totally addicted to it"

X-Files

A Wolfie deservedly goes to Ganymede

In the words of her nominator:

"She's written several absolutely stunning stories and has a command of Alex-angst that drives me mad with envy.  LOL!  Her "Missing and Presumed" series is fantastic, and her stories "Beautiful-A Love Story" and "Sanctuary" are not to be missed.  Also check out "Gabriel", a K/O story.  Heck, all of her stories are absolutely delicious and right up my alley.  I can always count on her for a terrific read and for just the kind of Alex that makes me weak in the knees."

X-Files

A Wolfie goes to Eggplant for her wonderful story "Babe"

Between you and me, it was a difficult call between *that* story and my own personal favorite of hers the "Laying Low" Series, but there *is* something particularly fabulous about "Babe" .

You can find Eggplant's stories listed under her name at the fantastic  Slashing Mulder archive

X-Files

I received so many nominations for this person that the award of the Wolfie became automatic <g>

It's difficult to pick and choose between her stories, but the majority of nominations were for her story/series "Love Hurts" and since it is exactly the blend of angst and hot sex that *I* adore, I decided to send Satina her Wolfie for "Love Hurts".  (Which is my way of saying,  when you go to read *that* one,  make sure you've got the time to hang around and eagerly devour all of her other stories too <g>)

X-Files

I received several nominations for "My Best Friend's Wedding"  by the Goddess Michele and, since it's already a great favorite of mine, had no hesitation in awarding it a Wolfie.

X-Files

While I personally like prefer my fiction dark and somewhat twisted <g> I know there a lot of genuine romantics out there. So a Wolfie goes to Drew Anderson for a fun, sweet (and rather long) story "The Love of My Life"    Why do I like it? Well, although it's an unashamedly romantic tale, it has a more than sufficient smattering of angst, sex and adventure to keep even a nasty old Mort satisfied <g>
I received several nominations for Polly Bywater's story "The Lodge".  I think it's the definitive story dealing with Chakotay's spiritual beliefs. She describes Native American lore with stunning  insight and understanding and incorporates it seamlessly into a wonderful C/P romance.

< Two romantic Winners  in a row - See, I *am* an old softie really!>

ST Voyager C/P

"A Fish Called Krycek" by Bernice (ex - Sarah Bellum)

Absolutely a classic AU, with Krycek as a merman and Fox as a guy with a thing for fucking fishes <g> I won't call it bestiality if you don't!

It's an absolutely magical fairy tale and just about my favorite AU of all time.

  X-Files  M/K

"Exigency, the series" by Zoe Takashi & Louise Wu

Sk/K at it's best.  If you haven't read this already, run -don't walk- to this link. It's marvellous, hot, and beautifully written work.

X-Files

"The Crying of the Stones" by Ursula

A stunning M/Sk/K au story, set during WWII

Take plenty of hankies with you when you visit this story.

X-Files

If you'd like to nominate a story for a WOLFIE, whether you wrote it yourself or just read it and loved it, just write to Mort and I'll be more than happy to see if I agree!
